My name is Phillippe Greenough and I’m a contributing writer for Detox Local. I started using drugs at 12 or 13 and I was 32 when I finally got sober. I tried to quit using dozens of times with no success; it just kept getting worse every time I started using again. Towards the end of my using, I had completely given up on life, but life apparently hadn’t given up on me. If you’ve struggled with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, know that there is another way, even though it may not seem like it at times.
When I finally got sober I went through detox at a local hospital. The doctors there helped me get through a violent episode of withdrawal and pointed me towards some local recovery fellowships. Twelve-step programs and therapy have helped free me of my guilt and shame and find a new way to live. I want everyone to have the chance that I’ve had, and working as a writer for Detox Local can help me share the truth that recovery is possible.
